De què tracta

El quart i ultim volum de les lliçons d'estetica de Hegel en la traduccio anglesa d'Osmaston: el dedicat a la poesia.

Context i història

Convé saber que aixo no es un llibre que Hegel escrivis. Son les seves lliçons de Berlin dels anys vint, reconstruides pel seu deixeble Hotho a partir dels manuscrits i dels apunts dels alumnes, i publicades despres de la seva mort; els estudiosos discuteixen quant hi va posar Hotho de collita propia. Dit aixo, el contingut es central: aqui la poesia apareix com l'art mes espiritual i alhora com el que ja no pot dir del tot el que caldria, i es on desemboca la famosa tesi del «caracter passat» de l'art —no que l'art s'acabi, sino que ha deixat de ser la manera mes alta com un poble entén la veritat. Els tres volums anteriors tracten de la idea de la bellesa, de l'arquitectura, l'escultura, la pintura i la musica.
