Molt més curta que la de Plató i amb una tesi diferent: Xenofont sosté que Sòcrates es va deixar condemnar a posta, perquè a setanta anys preferia morir abans que la decrepitud. És l'altra explicació antiga d'aquella mort, i es llegeix millor al costat de la de Plató que sola.
