La seconda parte dell'Avesta nei «Sacred Books of the East»: gli Yasht, i Sirozah e i Nyayish, cioè gli inni alle divinità e le preghiere quotidiane.
Contesto e storia
Gli Yasht sono la parte più letteraria dell'Avesta e anche quella che conserva più materiale anteriore a Zoroastro: sono inni a figure divine — Mithra, Anahita, Verethragna, le Fravashi — che lo zoroastrismo integrò invece di sopprimere, e hanno perciò un valore doppio, religioso e mitologico. Lo Yasht di Mithra in particolare è una fonte principale su un dio che finì per avere un culto proprio in tutto l'impero romano. I Nyayish sono preghiere al sole, alla luna, alle acque e al fuoco; i Sirozah, invocazioni per i trenta giorni del mese.
