Uscito nel 1893. La prima parte smonta, la seconda costruisce, e l'argomento decisivo è quello delle relazioni: nessun modo di mettere in relazione due cose sopravvive all'analisi senza generarne un'altra. Leggerlo spiega perché Russell e Moore fondarono la filosofia analitica: la fondarono contro questo libro, e senza sapere che cosa dicesse non si capisce a che cosa reagissero.

Neither in form nor extent does it carry out the idea of a system. Its subject indeed is central enough to justify the exhaustive treatment of every problem.
