Di che cosa tratta
Una scelta dagli scritti di Zwingli, il riformatore di Zurigo, che giunse per conto proprio a conclusioni simili a quelle di Lutero e ruppe con lui su un punto.
Contesto e storia
Zwingli cominciò a predicare a Zurigo nel 1519, due anni dopo le tesi di Lutero, e sosteneva di essere giunto alla propria posizione leggendo Erasmo e il Nuovo Testamento in greco, non leggendo Lutero. I suoi «Sessantasette articoli» del 1523 sono il programma della Riforma svizzera. Il punto di rottura fu l'eucaristia: per Lutero il corpo di Cristo vi è realmente presente; per Zwingli le parole «questo è il mio corpo» sono una figura e il sacramento è un memoriale. I due s'incontrarono a Marburgo nel 1529 e non si intesero, e quella divisione dura ancora. Zwingli morì a quarantasette anni, con le armi in pugno, in una battaglia fra cantoni cattolici e riformati.
