Prov 25:18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour, is like a dart and a sword and a sharp arrow. Prov 25:19 To trust in an unfaithful man in the time of trouble, is like a rotten tooth, and weary foot, Prov 25:20 And one that looseth his garment in cold weather. As vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a very evil heart. As a moth doth by a garment, and a worm by the wood: so the sadness of a man consumeth the heart. Prov 25:21 If thy enemy be hungry, give him to eat: if he thirst, give him water to drink: Prov 25:22 For thou shalt heap hot coals upon his head, and the Lord will reward thee. Prov 25:23 The north wind driveth away rain, as doth a sad countenance a backbiting tongue. Prov 25:24 It is better to sit in a corner of the housetop: than with a brawling woman, and in a common house. Prov 25:25 As cold water to a thirsty soul, so are good tidings from a far country. Prov 25:26 A just man falling down before the wicked, is as a fountain troubled with the foot and a corrupted spring. Prov 25:27 As it is not good for a man to eat much honey, so he that is a searcher of majesty shall be overwhelmed by glory. Prov 25:28 As a city that lieth open and is not compassed with walls, so is a man that cannot refrain his own spirit in speaking.
Prov 26:1 As snow in summer, and rain in harvest, so glory is not seemly for a fool. Prov 26:2 As a bird flying to other places, and a sparrow going here or there: so a curse uttered without cause shall come upon a man. Prov 26:3 A whip for a horse, and a snaffle for an ass, and a rod for the back of fools. Prov 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou be made like him. Prov 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he imagine himself to be wise. Prov 26:6 He that sendeth words by a foolish messenger, is lame of feet and drinketh iniquity. Prov 26:7 As a lame man hath fair legs in vain: so a parable is unseemly in the mouth of fools. Prov 26:8 As he that casteth a stone into the heap of Mercury: so is he that giveth honour to a fool. Prov 26:9 As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. Prov 26:10 Judgment determineth causes: and he that putteth a fool to silence, appeaseth anger. Prov 26:11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly. Prov 26:12 Hast thou seen a man wise in his own conceit? there shall be more hope of a fool than of him.
Prov 26:13 The slothful man saith: There is a lion in the way, and a lioness in the roads. Prov 26:14 As the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. Prov 26:15 The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth. Prov 26:16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit, than seven men that speak sentences. Prov 26:17 As he that taketh a dog by the ears, so is he that passeth by in anger, and meddleth with another man's quarrel. Prov 26:18 As he is guilty that shooteth arrows, and lances unto death. Prov 26:19 So is the man that hurteth his friend deceitfully: and when he is taken, saith: I did it in jest. Prov 26:20 When the wood faileth, the fire shall go out: and when the talebearer is taken away, contentions shall cease. Prov 26:21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so an angry man stirreth up strife. Prov 26:22 The words of a talebearer are as it were simple, but they reach to the innermost parts of the belly. Prov 26:23 Swelling lips joined with a corrupt heart, are like an earthern vessel adorned with silver dross. Prov 26:24 An enemy is known by his lips, when in his heart he entertaineth deceit.
Prov 26:25 When he shall speak low, trust him not: because there are seven mischiefs in his heart. Prov 26:26 He that covereth hatred deceitfully, his malice shall be laid open in the public assembly. Prov 26:27 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him. Prov 26:28 A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin. Prov 27:1 Boast not for to morrow, for thou knowest not what the day to come may bring forth. Prov 27:2 Let another praise thee, and not thy own mouth: a stranger, and not thy own lips. Prov 27:3 A stone is heavy, and sand weighty: but the anger of a fool is heavier than them both. Prov 27:4 Anger hath no mercy: nor fury, when it breaketh forth: and who can bear the violence of one provoked? Prov 27:5 Open rebuke is better than hidden love. Prov 27:6 Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy. Prov 27:7 A soul that is full shall tread upon the honeycomb: and a soul that is hungry shall take even bitter for sweet. Prov 27:8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that leaveth his place. Prov 27:9 Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart: and the good counsels of a friend are sweet to the soul.
Prov 27:10 Thy own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not: and go not into thy brother's house in the day of thy affliction. Better is a neighbour that is near than a brother afar off. Prov 27:11 Study wisdom, my son, and make my heart joyful, that thou mayst give an answer to him that reproacheth. Prov 27:12 The prudent man seeing evil hideth himself: little ones passing on have suffered losses. Prov 27:13 Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers. Prov 27:14 He that blesseth his neighbour with a loud voice, rising in the night, shall be like to him that curseth. Prov 27:15 Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike. Prov 27:16 He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call the oil of his right hand. Prov 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Prov 27:18 He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified. Prov 27:19 As the faces of them that look therein, shine in the water, so the hearts of men are laid open to the wise. Prov 27:20 Hell and destruction are never filled: so the eyes of men are never satisfied.
Prov 27:21 As silver is tried in the fining-pot, and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge. Prov 27:22 Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him. Prov 27:23 Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks: Prov 27:24 For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation. Prov 27:25 The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains. Prov 27:26 Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field. Prov 27:27 Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids. Prov 28:1 The wicked man fleeth, when no man pursueth: but the just, bold as a lion, shall be without dread. Prov 28:2 For the sins of the land many are the princes thereof: and for the wisdom of a man, and the knowledge of those things that are said, the life of the prince shall be prolonged. Prov 28:3 A poor man that oppresseth the poor, is like a violent shower, which bringeth a famine.
Prov 28:4 They that forsake the law, praise the wicked man: they that keep it, are incensed against him. Prov 28:5 Evil men think not on judgment: but they that seek after the Lord, take notice of all things. Prov 28:6 Better is the poor man walking in his simplicity, than the rich in crooked ways. Prov 28:7 He that keepeth the law, is a wise son: but he that feedeth gluttons, shameth his father. Prov 28:8 He that heapeth together riches by usury and loan, gathereth them for him that will be bountiful to the poor. Prov 28:9 He that turneth away his ears from hearing the law, his prayer shall be an abomination. Prov 28:10 He that deceiveth the just in a wicked way, shall fall in his own destruction: and the upright shall possess his goods. Prov 28:11 The rich man seemeth to himself wise: but the poor man that is prudent shall search him out. Prov 28:12 In the joy of the just there is great glory: when the wicked reign, men are ruined. Prov 28:13 He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper: but he that shall confess, and forsake them, shall obtain mercy. Prov 28:14 Blessed is the man that is always fearful: but he that is hardened in mind shall fall into evil.
Prov 28:15 As a roaring lion, and a hungry bear, so is a wicked prince over the poor people. Prov 28:16 A prince void of prudence shall oppress many by calumny: but he that hateth covetousness, shall prolong his days. Prov 28:17 A man that doth violence to the blood of a person, if he flee even to the pit, no man will stay him. Prov 28:18 He that walketh uprightly, shall be saved: he that is perverse in his ways, shall fall at once. Prov 28:19 He that tilleth his ground, shall be filled with bread: but he that followeth idleness, shall be filled with poverty. Prov 28:20 A faithful man shall be much praised: but he that maketh haste to be rich, shall not be innocent. Prov 28:21 He that hath respect to a person in judgment, doth not well: such a man even for a morsel of bread forsaketh the truth. Prov 28:22 A man that maketh haste to be rich, and envieth others, is ignorant that poverty shall come upon him. Prov 28:23 He that rebuketh a man, shall afterward find favour with him, more than he that by a flattering tongue deceiveth him. Prov 28:24 He that stealeth any thing from his father, or from his mother: and saith, This is no sin, is the partner of a murderer.
Prov 28:25 He that boasteth and puffeth up himself, stirreth up quarrels: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be healed. Prov 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart, is a fool: but he that walketh wisely, he shall be saved. Prov 28:27 He that giveth to the poor shall not want: he that despiseth his entreaty, shall suffer indigence. Prov 28:28 When the wicked rise up, men shall hide themselves: when they perish, the just shall be multiplied. Prov 29:1 The man that with a stiff neck despiseth him that reproveth him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him. Prov 29:2 When just men increase, the people shall rejoice: when the wicked shall bear rule, the people shall mourn. Prov 29:3 A man that loveth wisdom, rejoiceth his father: but he that maintaineth harlots, shall squander away his substance. Prov 29:4 A just king setteth up the land: a covetous man shall destroy it. Prov 29:5 A man that speaketh to his friend with flattering and dissembling words, spreadeth a net for his feet. Prov 29:6 A snare shall entangle the wicked man when he sinneth: and the just shall praise and rejoice. Prov 29:7 The just taketh notice of the cause of the poor: the wicked is void of knowledge.
Prov 29:8 Corrupt men bring a city to ruin: but wise men turn away wrath. Prov 29:9 If a wise man contend with a fool, whether he be angry, or laugh, he shall find no rest. Prov 29:10 Bloodthirsty men hate the upright: but just men seek his soul. Prov 29:11 A fool uttereth all his mind: a wise man deferreth, and keepeth it till afterwards. Prov 29:12 A prince that gladly heareth lying words, hath all his servants wicked. Prov 29:13 The poor man and the creditor have met one another: the Lord is the enlightener of them both. Prov 29:14 The king that judgeth the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for ever. Prov 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but the child that is left to his own will, bringeth his mother to shame. Prov 29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, crimes shall be multiplied: but the just shall see their downfall. Prov 29:17 Instruct thy son and he shall refresh thee, and shall give delight to thy soul. Prov 29:18 When prophecy shall fail, the people shall be scattered abroad: but he that keepeth the law, is blessed. Prov 29:19 A slave will not be corrected by words: because he understandeth what thou sayest, and will not answer. Prov 29:20 Hast thou seen a man hasty to speak? folly is rather to be looked for, than his amendment.
Prov 29:21 He that nourisheth his servant delicately from his childhood, afterwards shall find him stubborn. Prov 29:22 A passionate man provoketh quarrels: and he that is easily stirred up to wrath, shall be more prone to sin. Prov 29:23 Humiliation followeth the proud: and glory shall uphold the humble of spirit. Prov 29:24 He that is partaker with a thief, hateth his own soul: he heareth one putting him to his oath, and discovereth not. Prov 29:25 He that feareth man shall quickly fall: he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be set on high. Prov 29:26 Many seek the face of the prince: but the judgment of every one cometh forth from the Lord. Prov 29:27 The just abhor a wicked man: and the wicked loathe them that are in the right way. The son that keepeth the word, shall be free from destruction. Prov 30:1 The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke, with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said: Prov 30:2 I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me. Prov 30:3 I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.
Prov 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest? Prov 30:5 Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him. Prov 30:6 Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved and found a liar: Prov 30:7 Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die. Prov 30:8 Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life: Prov 30:9 Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God. Prov 30:10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall. Prov 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. Prov 30:12 A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness. Prov 30:13 A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high. Prov 30:14 A generation that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.
Prov 30:15 The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough. Prov 30:16 Hell and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough. Prov 30:17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it. Prov 30:18 Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of. Prov 31:1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision wherewith his mother instructed him. Prov 31:2 What, O my beloved, what, O the beloved of my womb, what, O the beloved of my vows? Prov 31:3 Give not thy substance to women, and thy riches to destroy kings. Prov 31:4 Give not to kings, O Lamuel, give not wine to kings: because there is no secret where drunkenness reigneth: Prov 31:5 And lest they drink and forget judgments, and pervert the cause of the children of the poor. Prov 31:21 She shall not fear for her house in the cold of snow: for all her domestics are clothed with double garments. Prov 31:22 She hath made for herself clothing of tapestry: fine linen, and purple, is her covering. Prov 31:23 Her husband is honourable in the gates, when he sitteth among the senators of the land. Prov 31:24 She made fine linen, and sold it, and delivered a girdle to the Chanaanite. Prov 31:25 Strength and beauty are her clothing, and she shall laugh in the latter day. Prov 31:26 She hath opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue. Prov 31:27 She hath looked well on the paths of her house, and hath not eaten her bread idle. Prov 31:28 Her children rose up, and called her blessed: her husband, and he praised her. Prov 31:29 Many daughters have gathered together riches: thou hast surpassed them all. Prov 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: the woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Eccl 1:1 The words of Ecclesiastes, the son of David, king of Jerusalem. Eccl 1:2 Vanity of vanities, said Ecclesiastes: vanity of vanities, and all is vanity. Eccl 1:3 What hath a man more of all his labour, that he taketh under the sun? Eccl 1:4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth standeth for ever. Eccl 1:5 The sun riseth, and goeth down, and returneth to his place: and there rising again, Eccl 1:6 Maketh his round by the south, and turneth again to the north: the spirit goeth forward surveying all places round about, and returneth to his circuits. Eccl 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea doth not overflow: unto the place from whence the rivers come, they return, to flow again. Eccl 1:8 All things are hard: man cannot explain them by word. The eye is not filled with seeing, neither is the ear filled with hearing. Eccl 1:9 What is it that hath been? the same thing that shall be. What is it that hath been done? the same that shall be done. Eccl 1:10 Nothing under the sun is new, neither is any man able to say: Behold this is new: for it hath already gone before in the ages that were before us. Eccl 1:11 There is no remembrance of former things: nor indeed of those things which hereafter are to come, shall there be any remembrance with them that shall be in the latter end. Eccl 1:12 I Ecclesiastes was king over Israel in Jerusalem, Eccl 1:13 And I proposed in my mind to seek and search out wisely concerning all things that are done under the sun. This painful occupation hath God given to the children of men, to be exercised therein. Eccl 1:14 I have seen all things that are done under the sun, and behold all is vanity, and vexation of spirit. Eccl 1:15 The perverse are hard to be corrected, and the number of fools is infinite. Eccl 1:16 I have spoken in my heart, saying: Behold I am become great, and have gone beyond all in wisdom, that were before me in Jerusalem: and my mind hath contemplated many things wisely, and I have learned. Eccl 1:17 And I have given my heart to know prudence, and learning, and errors, and folly: and I have perceived that in these also there was labour, and vexation of spirit, Eccl 1:18 Because in much wisdom there is much indignation: and he that addeth knowledge, addeth also labour. Eccl 2:1 I said in my heart: I will go, and abound with delights, and enjoy good things. And I saw that this also was vanity. Eccl 2:2 Laughter I counted error: and to mirth I said: Why art thou vainly deceived?
Eccl 2:3 I thought in my heart, to withdraw my flesh from wine, that I might turn my mind to wisdom, and might avoid folly, till I might see what was profitable for the children of men: and what they ought to do under the sun, all the days of their life. Eccl 2:4 I made me great works, I built me houses, and planted vineyards, Eccl 2:5 I made gardens, and orchards, and set them with trees of all kinds, Eccl 2:6 And I made me ponds of water, to water therewith the wood of the young trees, Eccl 2:7 I got me menservants, and maidservants, and had a great family: and herds of oxen, and great flocks of sheep, above all that were before me in Jerusalem: Eccl 2:8 I heaped together for myself silver and gold, and the wealth of kings, and provinces: I made me singing men, and singing women, and the delights of the sons of men, cups and vessels to serve to pour out wine: Eccl 2:9 And I surpassed in riches all that were before me in Jerusalem: my wisdom also remained with me. Eccl 2:10 And whatsoever my eyes desired, I refused them not: and I withheld not my heart from enjoying every pleasure, and delighting itself in the things which I had prepared: and esteemed this my portion, to make use of my own labour.
Eccl 2:11 And when I turned myself to all the works which my hands had wrought, and to the labours wherein I had laboured in vain, I saw in all things vanity, and vexation of mind, and that nothing was lasting under the sun. Eccl 2:12 I passed further to behold wisdom, and errors and folly, (What is man, said I that he can follow the King his maker?) Eccl 2:13 And I saw that wisdom excelled folly, as much as light differeth from darkness. Eccl 2:14 The eyes of a wise man are in his head: the fool walketh in darkness: and I learned that they were to die both alike. Eccl 2:15 And I said in my heart: If the death of the fool and mine shall be one, what doth it avail me, that I have applied myself more to the study of wisdom? And speaking with my own mind, I perceived that this also was vanity. Eccl 2:16 For there shall be no remembrance of the wise no more than of the fool forever, and the times to come shall cover all things together with oblivion: the learned dieth in like manner as the unlearned. Eccl 2:17 And therefore I was weary of my life, when I saw that all things under the sun are evil, and all vanity and vexation of spirit.
Eccl 2:18 Again I hated all my application wherewith I had earnestly laboured under the sun, being like to have an heir after me, Eccl 2:19 Whom I know not whether he will be a wise man or a fool, and he shall have rule over all my labours with which I have laboured and been solicitous: and is there anything so vain? Eccl 2:20 Wherefore I left off and my heart renounced labouring anymore under the sun. Eccl 2:21 For when a man laboureth in wisdom, and knowledge, and carefulness, he leaveth what he hath gotten to an idle man: so this also is vanity, and a great evil. Eccl 2:22 For what profit shall a man have of all his labour, and vexation of spirit, with which he hath been tormented under the sun? Eccl 2:23 All his days are full of sorrows and miseries, even in the night he doth not rest in mind: and is not this vanity? Eccl 2:24 Is it not better to eat and drink, and to shew his soul good things of his labours? and this is from the hand of God. Eccl 2:25 Who shall so feast and abound with delights as I? Eccl 2:26 God hath given to a man that is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he hath given vexation, and superfluous care, to heap up and to gather together, and to give it to him that hath pleased God: but this also is vanity, and a fruitless solicitude of the mind.
Eccl 3:1 All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven. Eccl 3:2 A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Eccl 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to destroy, and a time to build. Eccl 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance. Eccl 3:5 A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces. Eccl 3:6 A time to get, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away. Eccl 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak. Eccl 3:8 A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace. Eccl 3:9 What hath man more of his labour? Eccl 3:10 I have seen the trouble, which God hath given the sons of men to be exercised in it. Eccl 3:11 He hath made all things good in their time, and hath delivered the world to their consideration, so that man cannot find out the work which God hath made from the beginning to the end. Eccl 3:12 And I have known that there was no better thing than to rejoice, and to do well in this life. Eccl 3:13 For every man that eateth and drinketh, and seeth good of his labour, this is the gift of God. Eccl 3:14 I have learned that all the works which God hath made, continue for ever: we cannot add any thing, nor take away from those things which God hath made that he may be feared.
Eccl 3:15 That which hath been made, the same continueth: the things that shall be, have already been: and God restoreth that which is past. Eccl 3:16 I saw under the sun in the place of judgment wickedness, and in the place of justice iniquity. Eccl 3:17 And I said in my heart: God shall judge both the just and the wicked, and then shall be the time of every thing. Eccl 3:18 I said in my heart concerning the sons of men, that God would prove them, and shew them to be like beasts. Eccl 3:19 Therefore the death of man, and of beasts is one, and the condition of them both is equal: as man dieth, so they also die: all things breathe alike, and man hath nothing more than beast: all things are subject to vanity. Eccl 3:20 And all things go to one place: of earth they were made, and into earth they return together. Eccl 3:21 Who knoweth if the spirit of the children of Adam ascend upward, and if the spirit of the beasts descend downward? Eccl 3:22 And I have found that nothing is better than for a man to rejoice in his work, and that this is his portion. For who shall bring him to know the things that shall be after him?
Eccl 4:1 I turned myself to other things, and I saw the oppressions that are done under the sun, and the tears of the innocent, and they had no comforter; and they were not able to resist their violence, being destitute of help from any. Eccl 4:2 And I praised the dead rather than the living: Eccl 4:3 And I judged him happier than them both, that is not yet born, nor hath seen the evils that are done under the sun. Eccl 4:4 Again I considered all the labours of men, and I remarked that their industries are exposed to the envy of their neighbour: so in this also there is vanity, and fruitless care. Eccl 4:5 The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh, saying: Eccl 4:6 Better is a handful with rest, than both hands full with labour, and vexation of mind. Eccl 4:7 Considering I found also another vanity under the sun: Eccl 4:8 There is but one, and he hath not a second, no child, no brother, and yet he ceaseth not to labour, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches, neither doth he reflect, saying: For whom do I labour, and defraud my soul of good things? in this also is vanity, and a grievous vexation. Eccl 4:9 It is better therefore that two should be together, than one: for they have the advantage of their society: Eccl 4:10 If one fall he shall be supported by the other: woe to him that is alone, for when he falleth, he hath none to lift him up. Eccl 4:11 And if two lie together, they shall warm one another: how shall one alone be warmed? Eccl 4:12 And if a man prevail against one, two shall withstand him: a threefold cord is not easily broken. Eccl 4:13 Better is a child that is poor and wise, than a king that is old and foolish, who knoweth not to foresee for hereafter. Eccl 4:14 Because out of prison and chains sometimes a man cometh forth to a kingdom: and another born king is consumed with poverty. Eccl 4:15 I saw all men living, that walk under the sun with the second young man, who shall rise up in his place. Eccl 4:16 The number of the people, of all that were before him is infinite: and they that shall come afterwards, shall not rejoice in him: but this also is vanity, and vexation of spirit. Eccl 4:17 Keep thy foot, when thou goest into the house of God, and draw nigh to hear. For much better is obedience, than the victims of fools, who know not what evil they do. Eccl 5:1 Speak not any thing rashly, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. Eccl 5:2 Dreams follow many cares: and in many words shall be found folly.
Eccl 5:3 If thou hast vowed any thing to God, defer not to pay it: for an unfaithful and foolish promise displeaseth him: but whatsoever thou hast vowed, pay it. Eccl 5:4 And it is much better not to vow, than after a vow not to perform the things promised. Eccl 5:5 Give not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin: and say not before the angel: There is no providence: lest God be angry at thy words, and destroy all the works of thy hands. Eccl 5:6 Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities, and words without number: but do thou fear God. Eccl 5:7 If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these: Eccl 5:8 Moreover there is the king that reigneth over all the land subject to him. Eccl 5:9 A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money: and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity. Eccl 5:10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to eat them. And what doth it profit the owner, but that he seeth the riches with his eyes?
Eccl 5:11 Sleep is sweet to a labouring man, whether he eat little or much: but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. Eccl 5:12 There is also another grievous evil, which I have seen under the sun: riches kept to the hurt of the owner. Eccl 5:13 For they are lost with very great affliction: he hath begotten a son, who shall be in extremity of want. Eccl 5:14 As he came forth naked from his mother's womb, so shall he return, and shall take nothing away with him of his labour. Eccl 5:15 A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind? Eccl 5:16 All the days of his life he eateth in darkness, and in many cares, and in misery, and sorrow. Eccl 5:17 This therefore hath seemed good to me, that a man should eat and drink, and enjoy the fruit of his labour, wherewith he hath laboured under the sun, all the days of his life, which God hath given him: and this is his portion. Eccl 5:18 And every man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to enjoy his portion, and to rejoice of his labour: this is the gift of God.
Eccl 5:19 For he shall not much remember the days of his life, because God entertaineth his heart with delight. Eccl 6:1 There is also another evil, which I have seen under the sun, and that frequent among men: Eccl 6:2 A man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and honour, and his soul wanteth nothing of all that he desireth: yet God doth not give him power to eat thereof, but a stranger shall eat it up. This is vanity and a great misery. Eccl 6:3 If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, and attain to a great age, and his soul make no use of the goods of his substance, and he be without burial: of this man I pronounce, that the untimely born is better than he. Eccl 6:4 For he came in vain, and goeth to darkness, and his name shall be wholly forgotten. Eccl 6:5 He hath not seen the sun, nor known the distance of good and evil: Eccl 6:6 Although he lived two thousand years, and hath not enjoyed good things: do not all make haste to one place? Eccl 6:7 All the labour of man is for his mouth, but his soul shall not be filled. Eccl 6:8 What hath the wise man more than the fool? and what the poor man, but to go thither, where there is life?
