السياق والتاريخ
وهي بالغة القِصر بالغة الكثافة. وأشدّها أثرًا الثالثة، «في السُّبَاعِيّات» (De hebdomadibus)، وفيها يسأل: كيف يكون الشيء خيّرًا لمجرّد أنه كائن؟ وهناك يظهر التمييز بين الـ«esse» وبين ماهية الشيء، وهو تمييز حاسم عند توما الأكويني، وقد كتب على هذا النصّ شرحًا. أما الأخيرة، «ضدّ أوطيخا ونسطور»، ففيها تعريف الشخص — «جوهرٌ فرديٌّ ذو طبيعةٍ عاقلة» — وهو التعريف الذي نظّم ألف سنةٍ من الجدل اللاهوتي والفلسفي حول ماهية الشخص. وقد كتب بوئثيوس هذه الرسائل قبل سقوطه؛ أما «عزاء الفلسفة»، وهي في المدوّنة أيضًا، فكتبها في السجن منتظرًا الإعدام، ومن اللافت أنه لا يذكر فيها المسيحية.
