De què tracta

La segona part de l'Avesta als «Sacred Books of the East»: els Yashts, els Sirozahs i els Nyayishes, es a dir els himnes a les divinitats i les pregaries diaries.

Context i història

Els Yashts son la part mes literaria de l'Avesta i tambe la que conserva mes material anterior a Zoroastre: son himnes a figures divines —Mithra, Anahita, Verethragna, la Fravashi— que el zoroastrisme va integrar en comptes de suprimir, i per aixo tenen un valor doble, religios i mitologic. El Yasht de Mithra en particular es una de les fonts principals sobre un deu que va acabar tenint culte propi a tot l'imperi roma. Els Nyayishes son pregaries al sol, a la lluna, a l'aigua i al foc, i els Sirozahs, invocacions per als trenta dies del mes. Comm.), ' more destroying than other creatures, to make Non-peace (Anakhjti) powerless.' ^ Asnya khratu, the inborn intellect, intuition, contrasted with gaosho-sriita khratu, the knowledge acquired by hearing and learning. There is between the two nearly the same relation as between the paravidya and aparavidya in Brahmanism, the former reaching Brahma in se (parabrahma), the latter jabdabrahma, the word-Brahma (Brahma as taught and revealed). The Mobeds of later times interpreted their name Maguj, i^jJ^^, as meaning, ' men without ears,' (_Py\.*, ' pour insinuer que leur Docteur avait puisd toute sa science dans le ciel et qu'il ne I'avait pas apprise par I'ouie comme les autres hommes ' (Chardin, III, 1 30 ; ed.
