Context i història
Va néixer de la Revised Version britànica, i els revisors americans hi van deixar les lectures que els britànics havien refusat. El que la fa útil aquí és que no allisa: conserva «Sheol» en comptes de traduir-lo per «hell», i segueix l'ordre de les paraules de l'hebreu i del grec encara que l'anglès en surti tibant. Duu el cànon protestant —sense deuterocanònics— i és, per tant, la segona veu i no la principal.
