La primera part dels textos jainistes traduits per Jacobi: l'Acaranga Sutra i el Kalpa Sutra.
Context i història
L'Acaranga es probablement el text jainista mes antic que es conserva, i es el llibre de la conducta: com ha de viure un monjo, com ha de caminar per no trepitjar cap esser, com ha de demanar menjar, com ha de parlar. Es alla on l'ahimsa deixa de ser un principi i es converteix en una manera de moure's pel mon, i el detall es el que impressiona. El Kalpa Sutra es una altra cosa: conte les vides dels Jinas, sobretot la de Mahavira, i les regles de la temporada de pluges; es el text que es llegeix en public durant la festa de Paryushana. La segona part es al corpus a banda. Convé recordar que la traduccio es de Jacobi, del 1884, i que la tradicio jainista te dues branques —Shvetambara i Digambara— que no accepten el mateix cànon.
