Context i història
Publicat el 1695 sense signar, i amb motiu: la conclusió és que allò essencial és creure que Jesús és el Messies i esmenar la vida, i que la resta són coses afegides. Això li va valer immediatament l'acusació de socinianisme —és a dir, de negar la Trinitat— i una polèmica que va durar anys. Locke no la va reconèixer mai en vida com a seva. El llibre és una peça de la discussió sobre la tolerància tant com de teologia: si el mínim que cal creure és petit, el que es pot exigir per llei també.
