Aquesta és la traducció en vers de Ralph T. H. Griffith, publicada entre 1870 i 1874. El Ramayana no té un text únic: se n'han transmès diverses recensions —del nord, de Bengala, del sud— que no diuen exactament el mateix, i Griffith en tradueix una. Per citar amb precisió cal saber de quina recensió es parla.

But honouring the high decree "Which Brahma2 had pronounced of yore, He calmly all their insults bore, The town he burnt with hostile flame, And spoke again with Kama's dame, Then swiftly back to Kama flew With tidings of the interview.
