Fichtes „populäre“ Schriften: die für das Publikum und nicht für Philosophen bestimmten — Die Bestimmung des Menschen, Über das Wesen des Gelehrten, die Reden an die deutsche Nation.
Kontext und Geschichte
Die Reden sind es, die man richtig einordnen muss. Fichte hielt sie im Winter 1807/08 in Berlin, während die Stadt von Napoleons Truppen besetzt war, und was er darin vorschlägt, ist eine Bildungsreform, um ein besiegtes Volk wiederherzustellen. Ein Jahrhundert später beanspruchten der deutsche Nationalismus und danach der Nationalsozialismus sie als Vorläufer. Man liest sie am besten im Wissen um beides: in welcher Lage sie gesprochen wurden und was seither aus ihnen gemacht worden ist.
