Kontext und Geschichte
Es ist die erste vollständige englische Übersetzung, die ein Komitee von Juden für jüdische Leser erstellte, und der auffälligste Unterschied ist die Anordnung: Der Tanach verläuft Tora, Nevi'im, Ketuvim und endet nicht dort, wo das christliche Alte Testament endet. Wer Kapitel nach der Zählung einer christlichen Bibel sucht, stößt auf Abweichungen — keine Fehler, sondern zwei Traditionen der Texteinteilung.
