Contesto e storia
Uscito anonimo nel 1695, e a ragione: la conclusione è che l'essenziale sia credere che Gesù è il Messia e correggere la propria vita, e che il resto sia aggiunta. Gli valse subito l'accusa di socinianesimo — cioè di negare la Trinità — e una polemica durata anni. Locke non riconobbe mai il libro come suo in vita. È un tassello del dibattito sulla tolleranza tanto quanto di teologia: se il minimo che si deve credere è piccolo, lo è anche ciò che si può esigere per legge.
