Контекст и история
Латинское заглавие — «De veritate religionis Christianae», 1627 год. Первоначальный умысел был житейский: дать голландским морякам доводы для бесед с мусульманами и язычниками там, где они торговали. Отсюда тон, не схоластический, а ясный и стройный, и способ: исходить не из власти церкви, а из того, что мог бы допустить собеседник, её не признающий. Два столетия это было самое переводимое апологетическое сочинение Европы — есть арабские, персидские, китайские переложения — именно потому, что писалось для тех, кто посылки не разделял. Гроций известнее «De iure belli ac pacis»; обе книги обнаруживают один и тот же склад ума.
