Контекст и история
Издано без подписи в 1695 году, и не зря: вывод таков, что существенно верить, что Иисус есть Мессия, и исправить свою жизнь, а прочее — прибавления. Это немедленно навлекло обвинение в социнианстве, то есть в отрицании Троицы, и многолетний спор. При жизни Локк ни разу не признал книгу своей. Она принадлежит спору о веротерпимости не меньше, чем богословию: если минимум обязательной веры мал, мал и тот минимум, которого можно требовать законом.
