Контекст и история
Плутарх ставит в пару грека и римлянина — Александра и Цезаря, Демосфена и Цицерона — и в конце каждой пары их сравнивает. Он пишет не историю, а характер: он прямо говорит, что мелкий случай открывает человека лучше сражения. Отсюда идёт половина римских драм Шекспира, а с ними и значительная часть того, что Запад думает, будто знает о древности.

Agesilaus likewise alleged, that the bastardy of Leotychides was witnessed to by Neptune, who threw Agis out of bed by a violent earthquake, after which time he ceased to visit his wife, yet Leotychides was born above ten months after this.
