内容简介

The American revision of 1901: literal to the point of awkwardness, based on the critical text of the New Testament rather than the Textus Receptus.

背景与流传

It grew out of the British Revised Version, with the American revisers restoring readings the British had rejected. What makes it useful here is that it does not smooth things over: it keeps «Sheol» instead of rendering it «hell», and follows Hebrew and Greek word order even where the English turns stiff. It carries the Protestant canon — no deuterocanonicals — and so stands here as a second voice, not the main one.
