背景与流传
帕斯卡一六六二年去世，年三十九，身后留下数百则残稿——那是为一部他终究没有写成的基督教辩护而作的。有的是完整的段落，有的只有三个字；他把它们捆成一束一束，那些捆扎透露出他原先设想的次序。因此我们所读到的，无一不是编者所排定的顺序；而每一版排法各异——正因如此，各版的残篇编号并不相合，引用时必须说明所据何本。此中有那场“赌注”，有“心有其理，为理智所不知”，有作为“会思想的芦苇”的人，也有那无限空间的永恒沉默。注意：本目录收有此书的两种英译，《Pascal's Pensées》与《The Thoughts of Blaise Pascal》。这并非错误——它们是不同的版本——但须知道：同一则残稿会出现两次，文字不同，编号也不同。
