Kontext und Geschichte

Es kommt darauf an zu wissen, was man liest: Martineau hat nicht den ganzen Cours übersetzt, sondern ihn von sechs Bänden auf zwei gebracht, Wiederholungen gestrichen und den Gedankengang umgestellt. Dies ist also nicht das Original. Allerdings las Comte es und schätzte es so sehr, dass er es für seine Schüler ins Französische zurückübersetzen ließ, was einer Kürzung ungewöhnliche Autorität verleiht. Für jede Textfrage steht der französische Cours ebenfalls im Katalog.
