Kontext und Geschichte

Das Buch geht vom abstrakten Recht — ich und eine Sache, die mein ist — zur subjektiven Moralität und von dort zur Sittlichkeit, wo die Freiheit keine Forderung mehr ist, sondern eine eingerichtete Weise zu leben. Im Abschnitt über die bürgerliche Gesellschaft stellt Hegel fest, dass der Markt, sich selbst überlassen, Reichtum und Armut zugleich hervorbringt und dies nicht zu lösen weiß: eine der Stellen, an denen Marx nachgesehen hat. Die Vorrede enthält die zwei meistzitierten und meistbestrittenen Sätze: den vom Vernünftigen und Wirklichen und den von der Eule der Minerva, die in der Dämmerung ihren Flug beginnt. Manche Leser fanden darin eine Rechtfertigung des preußischen Staates, andere das Gegenteil; man liest es besser ohne die Zusammenfassung.
