Kontext und Geschichte
Dies ist die Versübersetzung von Ralph T. H. Griffith, erschienen zwischen 1870 und 1874. Das Ramayana hat keinen einheitlichen Text: überliefert sind mehrere Rezensionen — eine nördliche, eine bengalische, eine südliche —, die nicht genau dasselbe sagen, und Griffith überträgt eine davon. Genaues Zitieren setzt voraus zu wissen, welche gemeint ist.
