Contexto e historia

Conviene saber qué se está leyendo: Martineau no tradujo el Cours entero sino que lo redujo de seis volúmenes a dos, recortando repeticiones y reordenando el argumento. No es, pues, el original. Ahora bien, Comte la leyó y le gustó tanto que la hizo traducir de vuelta al francés para sus alumnos, lo que le da una autoridad poco corriente en una condensación. Para cualquier cuestión de texto, sin embargo, el Cours original en francés también está en el catálogo.

Contexto editorial, no una fuente citable: a diferencia de los pasajes de la obra, estos datos no se pueden comprobar contra el corpus.
