De qué trata
La segunda parte del Avesta en los «Sacred Books of the East»: los Yashts, los Sirozahs y los Nyayishes, es decir los himnos a las divinidades y las plegarias diarias.
Contexto e historia
Los Yashts son la parte más literaria del Avesta y también la que conserva más material anterior a Zoroastro: son himnos a figuras divinas —Mithra, Anahita, Verethragna, las Fravashis— que el zoroastrismo integró en vez de suprimir, y por eso tienen un valor doble, religioso y mitológico. El Yasht de Mithra en particular es una de las fuentes principales sobre un dios que acabó teniendo culto propio en todo el imperio romano. Los Nyayishes son plegarias al sol, a la luna, al agua y al fuego, y los Sirozahs, invocaciones para los treinta días del mes.
