Publicado en 1695 sin firma, y con motivo: la conclusión es que lo esencial es creer que Jesús es el Mesías y enmendar la vida, y que lo demás son añadidos. Eso le valió de inmediato la acusación de socinianismo —es decir, de negar la Trinidad— y una polémica que duró años. Locke no lo reconoció nunca en vida como suyo. El libro es una pieza de la discusión sobre la tolerancia tanto como de teología: si el mínimo que hay que creer es pequeño, lo que puede exigirse por ley también.
