Un examen de por qué nos equivocamos —los sentidos, la imaginación, las pasiones, las inclinaciones— y, a partir de ahí, su propia metafísica: vemos todas las cosas en Dios, y ningún cuerpo es nunca la causa real de lo que le ocurre a otro.
Contexto e historia
Publicado en 1674-75. Esta edición incluye además el Tratado de la naturaleza y de la gracia. Malebranche parte de Descartes y acaba en un lugar muy distinto: el ocasionalismo, donde lo que llamamos causas son solo ocasiones para que Dios actúe. La consecuencia es radical y es lo que le discutieron Arnauld y Leibniz —si Dios lo hace todo, qué queda de nosotros.
