Esta es la traducción en verso de Ralph T. H. Griffith, publicada entre 1870 y 1874. El Ramayana no tiene un texto único: se han transmitido varias recensiones —del norte, de Bengala, del sur— que no dicen exactamente lo mismo, y Griffith traduce una de ellas. Para citar con precisión hay que saber de qué recensión se habla.
