Contexto e historia
El texto se formó en el periodo chino de los Reinos Combatientes (siglos V-III a. C.), cuando la guerra dejó de ser cosa de nobles para volverse un asunto de estados enteros. La atribución a un general llamado Sun Wu es tradicional y discutida. Esta versión es la traducción inglesa de Lionel Giles de 1910, la que dio a conocer el libro fuera de China.
