Contexto e historia

Tertuliano es el primer autor cristiano importante que escribe en latín, y buena parte del vocabulario con que el cristianismo occidental hablará después —empezando por «trinitas»— sale de él. El Adversus Marcionem tiene además valor de fuente: Marción quería una Biblia sin Antiguo Testamento, y lo que sabemos de él viene casi todo de quien lo refutaba. Hacia el final de su vida se pasó al montanismo, y por eso nunca ha sido declarado santo.
