Una joven cristiana criada en el harén de Jerusalén, amada por el sultán y destruida por los malentendidos que la religión pone entre las personas. Voltaire trata al musulmán con una dignidad que su público de 1732 no esperaba, y la catástrofe no viene de ninguna de las dos religiones sino de la imposibilidad de hablar claro.
