Ces leçons non plus, Hegel ne les a pas écrites : les éditeurs les ont composées après sa mort à partir de ses notes et de cahiers d'étudiants d'années différentes. Le schéma qu'on cite est bien de lui — art symbolique, classique et romantique, et le parcours de l'architecture à la poésie — mais la formulation exacte souvent non. La définition de départ vaut d'être retenue : l'art est l'apparaître sensible de l'idée, et n'est donc ni décoration ni imitation de la nature.
