Contexte et histoire
Il s'agit de la traduction en vers de Ralph T. H. Griffith, parue entre 1870 et 1874. Le Ramayana n'a pas de texte unique : plusieurs recensions nous sont parvenues — du nord, du Bengale, du sud — qui ne disent pas tout à fait la même chose, et Griffith en traduit une. Citer avec précision suppose de savoir de quelle recension on parle.
