De quoi il s'agit
Une sélection des écrits de Zwingli, le réformateur de Zurich, qui parvint à des conclusions semblables à celles de Luther de son propre chef et rompit avec lui sur un point.
Contexte et histoire
Zwingli commença de prêcher à Zurich en 1519, deux ans après les thèses de Luther, et soutenait être arrivé à sa position en lisant Érasme et le Nouveau Testament en grec, non en lisant Luther. Ses « Soixante-sept articles » de 1523 sont le programme de la Réforme suisse. Le point de rupture fut l'eucharistie : pour Luther le corps du Christ y est réellement présent ; pour Zwingli les mots « ceci est mon corps » sont une figure et le sacrement un mémorial. Les deux se rencontrèrent à Marbourg en 1529 sans s'entendre, et cette division dure encore. Zwingli mourut à quarante-sept ans, les armes à la main, dans une bataille entre cantons catholiques et réformés.
