ग्रीन और ग्रोज़ का 1874-75 का चार-खंडीय संस्करण, जिसमें से सूची में पहला और दूसरा खंड हैं। इन्हीं दो में 'मानव प्रकृति पर निबंध' (Treatise) है, जिसे ह्यूम ने अट्ठाईस वर्ष की उम्र में छपवाया और जो, उन्हीं के शब्दों में, 'छापेख़ाने से मृत-जन्मा गिरा'। सब कुछ यहीं है: यह प्रतिज्ञा कि सारे विचार संस्कारों से आते हैं; कारणता का विश्लेषण — हम कोई अनिवार्य संबंध नहीं देखते, केवल एक निरंतर सहवर्तिता, जिसकी अपेक्षा करना आदत हमें सिखाती है; 'मैं' को द्रव्य मानने वाली धारणा पर प्रहार; और 'जो है' तथा 'जो होना चाहिए' के बीच वह भेद जिसने दो शताब्दियों की नैतिक बहस को व्यवस्थित किया। खंड III और IV में निबंध तथा दोनों 'अन्वेषण' हैं — उन्हीं बातों का बाद का, अधिक सुपाठ्य पुनर्कथन — वे दोनों खंड इस सूची में नहीं हैं, पर दोनों 'अन्वेषण' और 'निबंध' स्वतंत्र कृतियों के रूप में सूची में हैं।
