Contesto e storia
Questa traduzione inglese distribuisce in tre tomi ciò che in tedesco sono due volumi: il libro del 1818 e il volume di supplementi che Schopenhauer vi aggiunse nel 1844, ventisei anni dopo. I supplementi non sono appendici minori: sono lunghi quanto l'opera originaria, e spesso vi si leggono meglio le sue idee, perché ormai scrive senza dover convincere nessuno dell'architettura. Egli stesso chiedeva che l'insieme si leggesse due volte.
