何についての本か
『易経』。中国の経書のうちもっとも古い書であり、六爻から成る六十四の卦それぞれに辞を付す。占いの書としても、知恵の書としても用いられてきた。
背景と歴史
もっとも古い層は西周期、紀元前九世紀ごろの短い卦爻辞であり、これは占筮の手引きである。これを五経の一つたらしめたのは、数百年のちに加えられ、伝統的に孔子に帰される注釈群「十翼」だ。そこには一つの宇宙論が読み込まれている。変化とは陰と陽の入れ替わりであり、一つ一つの卦はある推移のうちの一時である、と。かくして同じ一書が占筮であると同時に時間の哲学でもあり、この二通りの読み方は二千年のあいだ並び立ってきた。以後の中国思想のすべてに刻印を残した。リヒャルト・ヴィルヘルムのドイツ語訳が、ユングの序を添えてこれをヨーロッパに紹介した。

Terrien de Lacouperie, and Professor R. K. Douglas of the British Museum and King’s College, London. I have alluded on pages 8, 9 of the Introduction to some inaccurate statements about native commentaries on the Yi and translations of it by foreigners, made in connexion with this contemplated version.
