『対比列伝』四巻本の第II巻。
背景と歴史
本目録には『列伝』の提示が二通りある。この四巻本と、もう一つの一巻本であり、同一の本文であって、別の作品でも補い合う作品でもない。分割は出版者による。プルタルコスが書いたのは独立した一対ずつ——ギリシア人一人とローマ人一人、末尾に比較を付す——であり、だからこそどこでも通用する典拠は人物名と章番号である。
