Contexto e historia
Esta traducción inglesa reparte en tres tomos lo que en alemán son dos volúmenes: el libro de 1818 y el volumen de complementos que Schopenhauer le añadió en 1844, veintiséis años después. Los complementos no son apéndices menores: ocupan tanto como la obra original y a menudo se leen mejor allí sus ideas, porque escribe ya sin tener que convencer a nadie de la estructura. Él mismo pedía que el conjunto se leyera dos veces.
