La philosophie positive de Comte en anglais, dans la version condensée de Harriet Martineau.

Contexte et histoire

Il importe de savoir ce que l'on lit : Martineau n'a pas traduit le Cours entier, elle l'a réduit de six volumes à deux, en élaguant les redites et en réordonnant l'argument. Ce n'est donc pas l'original. Cela dit, Comte l'a lue et l'a assez appréciée pour la faire retraduire en français à l'usage de ses élèves, ce qui donne à une condensation une autorité peu commune. Pour toute question de texte, néanmoins, le Cours original en français figure aussi au catalogue.
