Paru en 1893. La première partie démonte, la seconde construit, et l'argument décisif est celui des relations : aucune manière de relier deux choses ne résiste à l'analyse sans en engendrer une autre. Le lire explique pourquoi Russell et Moore ont fondé la philosophie analytique : ils l'ont fondée contre ce livre, et sans savoir ce qu'il disait on ne voit pas contre quoi ils réagissaient.
