Le premier livre de Jacob Böhme : une vision de Dieu, de la nature et de l'origine du mal, écrite avec le vocabulaire d'un cordonnier sans instruction.
Contexte et histoire
Il l'écrivit vers 1612, après ce qu'il décrit comme une illumination soudaine en regardant un reflet. Il ne le publia pas : un manuscrit circula sans son autorisation, le consistoire de Görlitz le condamna et on lui interdit d'écrire pendant des années — interdiction qu'il respecta jusqu'à n'en plus pouvoir. La prose est ardue parce qu'il invente son lexique chemin faisant. Une grande part de la mystique allemande ultérieure en procède, et Hegel comme Schelling l'ont lu pour de bon.
