L'Antéchrist (1888) : l'attaque frontale contre le christianisme, et le texte le plus violent qu'il ait écrit.
Contexte et histoire
Deux choses sont nécessaires pour le lire. D'abord qu'il distingue Jésus — dont il parle avec un respect surprenant — de l'Église et surtout de Paul, qui est le véritable accusé. Ensuite la date : il l'a écrit quelques semaines avant l'effondrement de Turin, et le ton s'en ressent. **À noter :** cette œuvre se trouve aussi à l'intérieur du volume Le Crépuscule des idoles… L'Antéchrist, qui figure séparément ; ce n'est pas un doublon. Traduction anglaise tirée de l'édition complète dirigée par Oscar Levy (1909-1913), celle qui est du domaine public. Elle a plus d'un siècle et cela se voit. L'original est ALLEMAND, et c'est lui qu'il faut citer : le catalogue en contient deux, Also sprach Zarathustra et Der Wille zur Macht ; pour le reste, seule la traduction est ici.

This book belongs to the most rare of men. Perhaps not one of them is yet alive. It is possible that they may be among those who understand my "Zarathustra": how _could_ I confound myself with those who are now sprouting ears?--First the day after tomorrow must come for me. Some men are born posthumously. The conditions under which any one understands me, and _necessarily_ understands me--I know them only too well. Even to endure my seriousness, my passion, he must carry intellectual integrity to the verge of hardness.
