Contexte et histoire
Paru en 1840. La formule appelle une précision que le livre apporte et qu'on ne lui joint presque jamais : Proudhon n'attaque pas la possession — le droit de chacun d'user de ce qu'il travaille — mais la propriété entendue comme le droit de tirer un revenu d'une chose sans y travailler : la rente et l'intérêt. C'est aussi le premier livre où quelqu'un se dit anarchiste et revendique le mot. Marx en fit l'éloge à sa parution et l'attaqua durement sept ans plus tard, dans un autre livre qui figure aussi à ce catalogue.
