Une jeune chrétienne élevée dans le harem de Jérusalem, aimée du sultan et détruite par les malentendus que la religion met entre les êtres. Voltaire traite le musulman avec une dignité que son public de 1732 n'attendait pas, et la catastrophe ne vient d'aucune des deux fois mais de l'impossibilité de parler clair.
