L'un des textes les plus aigus de l'Antiquité sur la solitude du pouvoir : le gouvernant ne peut se fier à personne, pas même à l'affection qu'il reçoit. Leo Strauss lui a consacré un livre entier en 1948 — De la tyrannie — qui a ouvert une querelle célèbre avec Kojève sur la philosophie et la politique.
