Contesto e storia
La commissionò Giacomo I e la realizzarono una quarantina di traduttori divisi in sei commissioni, ma non partirono da zero: gran parte della prosa viene da William Tyndale, giustiziato nel 1536 per aver tradotto la Bibbia in inglese. Conviene ricordare che è una traduzione: per ogni questione testuale gli originali sono l'ebraico e il greco, ed è lì che si deve verificare.
