何についての本か
The American revision of 1901: literal to the point of awkwardness, based on the critical text of the New Testament rather than the Textus Receptus.
背景と歴史
It grew out of the British Revised Version, with the American revisers restoring readings the British had rejected. What makes it useful here is that it does not smooth things over: it keeps «Sheol» instead of rendering it «hell», and follows Hebrew and Greek word order even where the English turns stiff. It carries the Protestant canon — no deuterocanonicals — and so stands here as a second voice, not the main one.

Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit-trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so. Gen 3:19 in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Gen 3:20 And the man called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Gen 3:21 And Jehovah God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and clothed them. Gen 3:22 And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever— Gen 3:23 therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
