背景と歴史
エピクロスの文章ではなく、十七世紀の再構成である。何世紀ものあいだ無神論と暴食の代名詞だったエピクロス主義を、イングランドが取り戻しつつあった時期に作られた。エピクロスの資料ではなく、その回復の記録である。
