背景と歴史
英語の表題はやや紛らわしい。「Wissenschaftslehre」とは、あらゆる知の根拠についての学の意であって、自然科学の哲学のことではない。フィヒテはカントから出発し、それが未完だと見る。物自体が認識できないのであれば、それを想定する必要はない、と彼は言う。出発点は、自我が自我自身を定立するという事行である。そこから、対立と制限とを通じて非我とその他いっさいを導き出す。存在する文書のうちでもっとも難解な部類に属し、フィヒテは幾度も書き直したが、ついに満足しなかった。これなくしてはシェリングもヘーゲルも解しがたい。クレーガーの訳は十九世紀のもので、対応するのは最初の稿であって、後年の諸稿ではない。
